Frequently Asked Questions
I received a card titled "Notice of Election" that says I must present identification when I vote at a poll. Is my Ohio driver's license acceptable?
Yes. Your Ohio driver's license is a valid photo identification.
I recently moved (within the county or from outside the county). How do I update my voter registration?
You need to submit a new Voter Registration form. Click on Voter Registration in the left-side menu for more information.
I recently changed my name, got married, or have discovered another problem with my voter registration. How do I update my voter registration?
You need to submit a new Voter Registration form. Click on Voter Registration in the left-side menu for more information.
When I looked up my registration using Voter Query, it said that my registration is pending or inactive. How do I make it active?
Registrations can be marked as pending or inactive for many reasons. For example:
- If this office mails you an Election Notice or Voter Notification Card, and it is returned by the United States Postal Service as undeliverable, your registration will be marked inactive.
- If the state voter registration system has flagged your registration as being as possible duplication of a registration in another county, your registration will be marked pending.
Being marked pending or inactive does not prohibit you from voting; voting in an election will return your registration to active status.
When I looked up my registration using Voter Query, it said that my registration is cancelled, but it shouldn't have been cancelled. How do I make it active?
If your registration has been cancelled and you do not believe that it should have been cancelled, please contact us.
Can I submit any forms or applications electronically?
No. Forms and applications requiring a signature cannot be submitted by e-mail, internet, fax, or any other non-physical delivery method; the board of elections must receive a copy with an original signature.
I think that Voter Query is out of date. When was it last updated?
Voter Query is updated frequently; when using voter query, please note that the records are current as of the date presented at the top of the results page. Voter Query can be considered correct as of the aforementioned date; if you believe that it is incorrect, please contact us.
When I looked up my registration using Voter Query, it said that my polling location is different than where I have previously voted. Why?
Polling locations do change on occasion; this is frequently beyond the control of the board of elections. For example, any of the following reasons (and many more) may cause a polling location to change:
- The facility may inform the board of elections that it may no longer be used as a polling location.
- Precincts may be added or removed within the county, or boundary lines may change, affecting the number of registered voters in specific precincts.
- Facilities may be abandoned in favor of those that can accomodate larger quantities of voters.
Polling locations are only changed when absolutely necessary.
